WPC (Wood Polymer Composite) is the name given to the final product, which has the apperance of wood, and which is obtained through mixing the sawdust with the raw material of the main carrier polymer. In recent years, it has begun to take the place of the more expensive wood products, as it has lower water absorption, high insulation properties and more durable than the woodwork, alongside with its aesthetic and natural appearance. Its production requires more demanding processing conditions compared to the other polymer extrusions. The most important point to take into account here is the moisture content of the sawdust to be used. The moisture content of the sawdust must not exceed 8%. Otherwise, water molecules that evaporate rapidly within the extrusion will cause high pressures, resulting in the extruder to lead to mold damages. WPC productions have a weaker compatibility rate than other extrusion products due to sawdust. For this reason, its production rate is low. We recommend the use of conical screw extruders for better plastification and also for better compatibility of the sawdust with that of polymeric material. We also recommend the use of Zinc Borate as the flame retardant due to sawdust usage in the product.
